Meet Jaime: a neurotic & endearing columnist who is waiting to see a doctor. Meet Dr. Ferguson: an easy going & amiable doctor who walks in to perform Jaime’s physical exam. Jaime is mortified; Dr. Ferguson is confused. Awkwardness ensues at full speed given that they went out on a date a couple of weeks earlier. Jamie eventually lets him examine her & the whole misunderstanding is cleared up, a prescription is written, & a second chance delivered.

Focus Canada at Shanghai Int’l Film Festival-Defendor

BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhuanet) – A series of screenings has kicked off at the Shanghai International Film Festival to show that Canada, despite its geographical similarity with the U.S., produces very different films from Hollywood. Thirteen Canadian films have been chosen for the Focus Canada project, eight of which are in English with the remaining five in French.

A representative from Telefilm Canada, the event’s co-organizer, said Canada’s diversified culture and its mixed English and French-speaking population make the country unique from its American neighbor in terms of filmmaking.

The smaller budget is another difference, added Peter Stebbings, a Vancouver-born actor-turned-director who is in Shanghai with his directorial debut, “Defendor”.

Outside Focus Canada, two Canadian films – “The Last Escape” and “Detour” – are among the 16 films competing for the Golden Goblet at the June 12-20 Shanghai International Film Festival.
